I’m excited about the opportunity to speak at one of your Optimist Club meetings. As the Executive Director of the Northern Virginia Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons (NVRC), I lead our mission to empower individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, or deafblind through education, advocacy, and community involvement.
Since 1988, NVRC has been a cornerstone in Northern Virginia, offering a wide range of services including:
Community education and outreach to raise awareness about hearing loss and promote inclusivity
An assistive technology demo center where people can try devices that support hearing and communication
Communication access services, such as interpreting and captioning for public and nonprofit settings
ASL classes for individuals and families to strengthen communication
Our annual Celebrate Communication Expo, which connects the community with vital resources and tech
I look forward to sharing more about our work and bringing the message of inclusion, communication access, and hearing health to your members. Please let me know what dates might work best—I’d be honored to join you.
Warm regards,
Darren
